Clos de Paris Tales of Restoring a Normandy Farmhouse eBook Kyle Campbell Miller

For those addicted to HGTV and France, this is a good if light read. In the form of letters to children and grandchildren, you may or may not be interested in all the details of how the Millers transformed an old and somewhat tired house into one brimming with new life and promise. Still, the amount of energy, perseverance and chronicling of building materials and artisans is tribute to a project tackled with gusto, considerable money and good luck. The real heroes are the craftsmen and women who have the skills and passion to see things through. The Millers transition from one month to six month a year ex-pats in a way that ultimately helps their new community and themselves. There are so many little old towns in France and elsewhere that can and should welcome folks who will make the commitment to become a strong part of their community. Numerous photographs help to share the successful stages of the project and the near final results.

Clos de Paris Tales of Restoring a Normandy Farmhouse eBook Kyle Campbell Miller Reviews

What an engaging and cleverly written account of the journey the Miller's took restoring an historical farmhouse in France. And, what a way to totally immerse yourself in a foreign culture and a community. I can't remember if the author said "a house that came with a community" or a "community that came with a house", but either way she was able to convey the sense of belonging that they feel there. The connections and relationships the author describes will be long-lasting and they now can just simply enjoy being there. Well done on all accounts!
This sweet book is a testament to a beautiful couple who had a vision and followed through with a dream! One will drift into the life of a village of friendly, welcoming people who worked together as a team to see a massive goal realized. One of the most touching aspects of Cos de Paris, is the close relationship displayed by the author as she shares her daily trials, triumphs and humor with her adult children.
The restoration of a centuries old farmhouse in the French countryside might conjure up nightmarish thoughts, especially given that it was often directed from afar. In contrast, Clos de Paris transports you back to a way of life far removed from most of our modern day experiences. I felt as if I was on site with a cast of characters who define a beautiful way of life. How heartwarming are the tales that exquisitely capture the civility of the French culture, and of humankind.

Imagine a beautiful French village with cobblestone streets and ancient stone homes. Now imagine an American couple who dream of renovating a French farmhouse in the center of this village. This is the tale of how they transform the farmhouse and, in the process, establish friendships throughout the village. The author and her husband fully invest themselves in this project and are accepted and embraced by the local residents. Nancy Fly
France can be a mysterious place. Behind the facade of the most plain looking house may lie the most extraordinary secrets. You may find beautiful rooms, exquisite gardens an remarkable views.

This book is the story of such a place. Behind the facade of Clos de Pais Kyle and Steve Miller found the unexpected, A serendipitous turn of events that became a new way of life.

When they bought Clos de Paris they knew there would need to be changes to it, but perhaps the biggest changes were to Kyle and Steve. They moved not only into the French Farmhouse but into the lives of many others.

Anyone who has had the thought that they would like to change their lives will take great heart from this book.
Yes, Clos de Paris is a sweet book that chronicles a French farmhouse re-do, but it is also an illustration of the importance of relationships and how being present in the moment is really a "present" to ourselves and others. The tenderness Kyle shows in her missives to her children, the humor in her sweet relationship with husband Steve and the admiration and respect given to all that enter her adventure, neighbors and craftsmen alike, gifts the gentle reader the feeling all is good and kind and right with the world. Enjoy this tome while sipping tea (or maybe wine!) and eating a croissant. p.s. The photos and art work c'est tres bon.
I am friends with the friend of the author in this French farmhouse restoration, and most of my way through the book was accompanied by intense jealousy. Never in this life will I move to France to restore a historic farmhouse to its authentic charm, but I did enjoy following along on this adventure!
