Legends of Dimmingwood Series Books 13 eBook C Greenwood Reviews
A thrilling read, none stop excitement, I didn't want to put it down. I could see the forest & feel the wind on my face. If you lobe to read about magic you'll find it here
There is no ending here. Three books in and there is no conclusion to ANY story line by the end of the "trilogy". I am willing to bet that if I was to read the next three, I STILL wouldn't have a conclusion to any of the story arcs.
Ms. Greenwood is writing a 700 page novel and making us pay $3 for every 120 pages, calling each section a novel. This is pricey and deceptive.
This is a good set of books. It kept me reading to the end and wanting more. The only down side to the book was that they were short in length, I am used to reading books over two to three hundred pages. I was aware of the length when I started reading them but was just wanting more.
Other then that it was a great set of books. Although there was some magic mentioned in the first of the book, it took a while to build into the magic portions of things. The story line is good and well thought out. The characters are well built, and the author has a good base of characters.
I like the way that I was able to get pulled easily into the story and didn't want to put down the book. I really love reading and this was a set that i could get lost in.
I got the first book free and just had to have the rest! My only disappointment is in the fact that the story continues after this series. When I by a series I want it to start in book one and end in the last book in the series. I really dislike buying a full series and then having to wait a year or so for the next book, that defeats the object of buying the whole series!
My gripes apart, I loved the style, the character development, the storyline, and I would buy books written by this author.
The characters grow on you as the series move on. There wasn’t sloppiness on the author ‘s part, t was simply told with so much imagery that I feel like I could find my way in the Dimmingwood. It’s beautifully & sometimes brutally told, but the story is interesting and and keeps turning around on itself as some game trails do.
Growing up as a young child in a great forest, this’s story brought back great memories.
Good start, but the books are very short, and I didn't feel things were developing well by the third book. The plot has been fairly obvious and the often whiny protagonist grows dull.
Legends of Dimmingwood Series (books 1 - 3). This package deal is the first 3 of 5 books in the series. They are relatively short books, 265 or so pages each.
Installment 1, Magic of Thieves, primarily sets the story in place within the Dimmingwood Forest and covers the years of 6 to about 15 or 16 years of age for Ilan (a.k.a. Hound Dog). Her family was killed for being Magicers and Llan escapes to the forest where she is reluctantly adopted by Rideon's band of thieves. No one ever leaves the band of thieves under penalty of death.
I enjoyed watching (reading) Ilan grow and develop as a limited band member. Main characters are fleshed out and their dialogue appropriate, not corny or cliche redden. Descriptions of the forest are for the most part lacking. The Hound has some good and bad adventures in the forest, while she does the dirty work for the band. The ending of book 1 comes at a good point with Ilan secretly leaving the Band of Thieves.
3 stars for Book 1, due to poor descriptions of the forest where Ilan spends 10 years, and because of little or nothing happening in the story.
Book 2, Betrayal of Thieves.
This installment starts off with Llan out of the forest, accompanied by Terrac, and heading into Selbius, the Praetor's city. Terrac is captured on the way and Ilan hurries on to rescue him. Instead she picks up a new friend in the city and together they have several adventures and meet the boat people. Scenic descriptions better than in the first book, as more time is devoted to settings. A good improvement if you wish to "experience" the story. Ilan learns that she is a "natural" mage and what that means. In her attempt to rescue Terrac, she is betrayed. Devastated, she returns to the boat people.
This is a shorter installment than the first one, and not very interesting. Two stars.
Book 3, Circle of Thieves
Ilan is hurting from her betrayal and returns to her friend with the boat people. Here Hadian continues her instruction. But, Dimmingwood is calling, and she returns to pick uo her previous life as a new person. I found it odd that Ilan was forbidden to leave the wood under penalty of death, yet upon her return, she is welcomed back wholeheartedly. There are other incongruences, as well.
Ilan is back with the Band not more than a couple of days when she gathers a group and again goes against Rideon's orders. Ilan leaves the wood and finds herself alone and aimless. After many trials, she actually finds herself working for her sworn enemy!
Overall, i consider the Dimmingwood series as 2.5 stars, primarily due to the weak story.
The books have so much potential, but they never go anywhere or answer any questions. I have read all the books so far, and I am still waiting for a single answer to anything... At this rate, you could expect about 4 more books.
